UN General Assembly Holds Two Day Emergency Summit

Posted: November, 2006 Bookmark and Share
Due to the rapid growth of Undead cases worldwide and the seeming lack of a consolidated strategy for containment and elimination of the Necro-Mortosis virus, The United Nations General assembly held an emergency summit in Switzerland today. There are many resolutions on the table, however, acting on recommendations made by the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) the plight of the Haitian refugees trying to flee their Zombie plagued homelands is top of the agenda.

Search for cure:
The other issue of intense focus is the search for a cure for the virus. Unprecedented funds have been made available to all major health authorities, with frustratingly little to show for it. Even an inhibitor is not on the horizon, let alone a vaccine or cure.

With the 'have's and have not's' divide so starkly evident, Assembly President Sheriha Rashied Al Khalifa ( Tehran) said at her end-of-session briefing, she had tried to work with Member States and the Secretary-General to bridge differences after developing countries accused rich nations of penning in the poor as fodder for the undead to keep them distracted , whilst running to close their own borders.

United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan said the global partnership for development was still more phrase than fact. “ Even among those who statistics tell us are benefiting, many are deeply insecure and strongly resent the apparent complacency of those more fortunate than themselves.”

Hazard pay:
The Committee will also carefully consider the recommendations of the International Civil Services Commission (ICSC), who forward a draft resolution approving an increased level of hazard pay and hardship grants, for international staff sent to oversee heavily infested areas of undead. 346 UN Civil Service staff have been lost to the Zombie plague so far. This figure does not include UN Peacekeepers, they are thought to number in their 1500-2000 range. (Official figures have never been released),
