A 3 mile quarantine was erected around Stretford, Manchester today following a night of violence that left 3 people dead and another 2 injured.
This afternoon residents made frantic calls to the police to report the sighting of an roaming undead. A 'quick response' police unit was dispatched to the scene but the suspected reanimate is yet to be located.
Police have confirmed that a temporary quarantine zone has been put into place around several streets in the city center.
Police spokesmen John Shaw gave the following short statement,
" Around 5:30pm police were alerted to the possible presence of the zombie reanimate. A rapid response unit was dispatched and a small quarantine was erected while Police searched the local area. Unfortunately officers have not been able to locate the reanimate and the decision was taken to widen the quarantine to 3 miles in order to allow us to complete a full and satisfactory sweep of the area and to enable us to find the wandering reanimate.
I can also confirm that unfortunately 3 people have been attacked and killed. A young male, 19 years has been declared deceased on arrival at Manchester infirmary. After his death, he was monitored closely but did not rise. Two women were also attacked and killed within the quarantine zone. They both showed early signs of reanimation and were dealt with accordingly by trained medical staff.
We will continue to work quickly and rigorously as we look to secure the surrounding area and want to reassure the public we have everything under control "
A City in fear
However, Shaw's words did not manage to calm a city on edge tonight. Especially after A Chilling CCTV camera photo was released tonight in hopes of warning the public. It was taken by a camera situated outside a bank near the university campus. The assailant shows clear signs of early onset mortosis. He spent several minutes staring at the camera before he attacked a passerby. The un named victim managed to run away and was reportedly not bitten, but did sustain an injury from falling. She is spending the night in quarantine as a medical precaution.
A second person was injured following a similar attack by the zombie. Police gave little details other than it was a male, late 40's and he is being kept in quarantine isolation for observation.
Local sources told ZWN that the reanimate at large is local teacher Neville Rigger, who was staying on campus at The University of Manchester. Sources also claim that he was part of the recent Multiple Vehicle collision on the A5103 motorway just outside of Manchester. As reported by ZWN, that fatal accident was caused by a passenger who had returned from the nearby airport. He attacked the driver of the taxi after succumbing to necro-mortosis on the journey.
Indications are that Rigger (pictured in the photo), was treated in hospital for what was believed to be minor injuries caused by the accident and released later that night. Manchester Royal Infirmary have declined to comment but have confirmed they will release a statement in due time.
Meanwhile police today named the reanimate that was the cause of Saturdays accident as Patrick Bailey. They also confirmed Bailey had arrived at Manchester airport that afternoon having been away on business in Spain. Patrick was returning home via an executive airport transfer when he attacked the driver causing the accident.
Police have confirmed that 8 people were killed and 42 injured in the multiple car collision that followed the attack.
